Suprising Lessons

It's funny how a person's day turns out. I went to school thinking it was going to be a typical day. I stepped into my first class to find out that elder Uchtdorf was speaking at the mckay event center. we all got out early and those of us that wanted to go see him talk could. I only cought the last half but here were some cool things he said:

  • He loves institute and aviation. They both get you closer to heaven.- This made me chuckle.
  • How we act today will effect future generations.- This made me think about the upcoming election and the vote on proposition 8. So much that is happening right now is going to effect our children, what they learn in schools and others outside of church will be greatly effected and to be honest, I'm terrified for the outcome.
  • Fear not to do good.- Today it seems like service has been the main theme. In institute, we talked a lot about the low of consecration. Sister hepworth told a very touching story about her brother who fell 15 feet on his head and neck. He went into a comma and the doctors said he had 8 blood leaks in his brain and would not survive. after many blessings he is out of the hospital but completely paralyzed. to make a long story short, he needed a new fridge and couldn't afford it. sister hepworth and her husband prayed and prayed. then last week they received a card with a check of 1000 dollars from people that heard about her brother. In the note they explain that since the accident they have thought and prayed what they could do for him but got no answer until last week. It was such an amazing story and the spirit was insanely heavy in the class room. She also quoted a magazine that I found really interesting:
    • "5 of the richest people in the world have the combined net worth of 1 trillion dollars. 3 of the 5 = 48 poorest countries in the world's worth."
Today gave me a nice round house kick to the face. Lately I have been so caught up with my own problems and money issues. This world needs more charity and service and it starts with each of us. come on now, give a little love people.
